The Gaslight Anthem are one of the most exciting
new bands around at the moment, ok they aren’t
really a new band as they are now on their second
studio album but the band are new to the UK and
the rest of the world as they are just starting
to make a name for themselves and become more and
more popular on a daily basis, they have just completed
a tour across the UK and have the whole summer booked
up with as many festival appearances across the
world as they could possibly fit in.
The band have already released ‘The 59
Sound’ and ‘Old White Lincoln’
as singles and both of the songs were stunning
releases and now they are ready to release their
third single ‘Great Expectations’
on the 23rd March.
‘Great Expectations’ is my favourite
track on the new Gaslight Anthem album, it is
the opening track from the album and it starts
off with a sound of a needle scratching on a vinyl
record then fires straight into melodic punk that
sounds ever so similar to the sound of Alkaline
Trio, in fact you would be forgiven for thinking
that Matt Skiba was on vocal duties here as Brian
Fallon’s sound so similar to those of Matt
throughout the whole song, the song is full of
catchy hooks and a big sing along chorus.
The b-sides to the single are two acoustic tracks
the first one is called ‘Miles Davies And
The Cool’, which is an acoustic version
of a track from the band’s new album and
appears to be a really good listen, the second
b-side is an acoustic version of ‘Great
Expectations’ and I have to say it’s
so good to hear Brian Fallon sing the opening
lyrics whilst strumming his acoustic guitar.
At the moment The Gaslight Anthem are an unstoppable
band, they are loved all over the world and with
‘Great Expectations’ being released
as an single they are only going to get bigger
as they have saved the best single until now.
