You might think Tommy Reilly is the most Irish name
you’ve ever heard, but the talented singer-songwriter
actually hails from Glasgow. Tommy shot to fame
after winning the TV talent show, Orange Unsigned
Act, at the beginning of the year. He won an impressive
record deal with Universal Music, and this, Gimme
A Call, is his debut single.
The track itself is honest and simple. He receives
no accompaniment, leaving his voice and acoustic
guitar exposed. It’s a very sincere recording;
the lyrics are pure and true, telling the desperate
story of waiting for someone to call. His Scottish
accent shines through the lyrics, reminding me
of Glasvegas.
He states Bob Dylan and Ryan Adams as his influences,
and you can definitely hear their impact on his
sound. Unfortunately, the track isn’t particularly
memorable, and his voice is whiney, to be frank.
But, with the backing of the audience who voted
for him, you’ll be hearing more from him
soon.
