The Living Daylights - Ways To EscapeThe Living Daylights – Ways To Escape

You can’t beat a bit of punk rock and it’s even better when the band are from England and combine poppy-punk with the more raw side of punk and that is exactly what this Lincoln five piece The Living Daylights have done, and they have just created a brand new album called ‘Ways To Escape’ for Fond Of Life Records and it looks like they have a massive tour around the UK and mainland Europe to coincide with the release.

For someone like myself who grew up listening to the UK punk rock bands such as 4FT Fingers, Gash, Short Warning, The Bombjacks, Phinius Gage, Not Katies and so many other great bands from the underground punk scene, it is a pleasure to listen to ‘Ways To Escape’ from The Living Daylights as the album reminds me of all these great bands that sadly aren’t anymore.

There is defiantly a lot going for ‘Ways To Escape’, the opening track ‘Carve It Out’ starts with group chant along vocals of “Stand up, stand up, carve it out with broken fingers” and as soon as that finish and mad drumming assault and thick punk rock guitar riffs come in, with vocalist Sam Cook bringing in a great set of vocals which sound best during the melodic chorus of “stand up, stand up”, the song is short but sweet running for just over 1minute.

The instrumental work throughout the album is really impressive, Dan Brogan is forever making the best of his drumming skills with really hard constant hits on his kit, the guitar riffs are loud and have that punk rock feel, the bass lines are bouncy in places and help keep the songs together, as for the vocals they are pretty huge sounding and full of hooks and melodic sing along moments.

There are so many great songs on the album such as ‘Maps’ which has a great guitar driven introduction, to ‘Let Me Loose’ which starts off vocally fast and ends up being a fast flowing punk rock song that runs for just over 2minutes to the extreme bounciness of ‘My Return’, they are all top moments and the thing is pretty much all the tracks on the album have something about them that stick out, something that you will remember them for and that’s what makes The Living Daylights a really exciting band.

If anyone is going to help make the UK punk rock scene healthy again then The Living Daylights can certainly help as they are on the right tracks to success, they release the stunning album that is ‘Ways To Escape’ on the 6th April and then tour relentlessly across the whole of Europe, The Living Daylights are a band to watch, they have a solid sound and make the most of infectious punk rock.
