I have only just got my hands on the new album by
Rosematter and have also at the same time just found
out that the band are calling it quits and that
their last live show has already been and gone which
therefore means that the band are no more, however
I will continue to review their latest album as
it’s a pretty hot release.
‘Shooter’s Gonna Choke’ is
the bands 3rd full length studio album and it
features 11 really strong poppy punk songs, the
band claim that they are influenced by bands such
as Fall Out Boy, No Doubt and Jimmy Eat World
but I would say that they sound more like an European
version of Paramour and would be good healthy
competition for them.
The album starts with ‘Decadence Is Freedom
With A Smile’, and starts off pretty well
with Katie’s strong happy vocals taking
centre stage and taking the song on a short but
fun melodic ride, the drums are pounding thick
and fast, whilst the guitars sit in extremely
well with Katie’s vocal style.
The cleverly named ‘I Bet She Gives Great
Helmet’ once again has a great piece of
drumming running throughout the song, Katie also
leads the song with her extremely fast and uplifting
catchy vocals whilst the rest the band help create
more catchy sounds with the bouncy basslines and
catchy guitar riffs.
Rosematter are a band who like their long random
song titles just like bands like Fall Out Boy
and Panic At The Disco like and they have witty
song titles such as ‘I Don’t Cheat,
I Get Results’, ‘Fool Me Once, Strike
One, Fool Me Twice Strike Free’, ‘Being
Brave Means Having Your Adult Teeth Kicked In’
and even ‘I Drink To Prepare For A Fight
(Tonight I’m Very Prepared)’ and each
and every one of these songs are as bouncy and
catchy as each other.
The band also like to write songs about Chuck
Norris, in 2006 they released a song called ‘Chuck
Norris Doesn’t Sleep He Waits’ and
now they have written a song called ‘Chuck
Norris Jokes Aren’t Funny Anymore’
and the song makes perfect use of Katie’s
vocal styles as her vocals change in style a few
times over during the song, in places they are
fast and catchy and in other places they are more
slow paced.
The whole of ‘Shooter’s Gonna Choke’
is really upbeat and melodic, but if you start
to read into the lyrics you will realise that
there are some really dark moments throughout
the album but these guys bring a shine of light
and happiness to such bad topics and themes and
that is what appeals to me the most about Rosematter.
It’s a shame that Rosematter have split
up as ‘Shooter’s Gonna choke’
really is a top album and it would of been good
to see how far these guys were going to go as
they have/had the potential to go far.
4/5
