If you're between the ages of eight and fourteen,
you'll no doubt like
this by default. I'm not sure how this will fair
with the maturer
audience, besides Mum's trying to be hip.
Danny Rocco is clearly a great songwriter, and
he's got a strong voice.
But he's had a touch of the Sam Isaac when the
studio has come along. A
clearly brilliant acoustic singer songwriter goes
and gets a full band,
and it all falls apart. I'm speaking hypothetically,
I don't know
whether Rocco started alone, but I'd guess he
did and I'd also guess
that's how he was spotted. Thus, isn't that how
he should have stayed.
The full band, complete with cheesy electric guitars
and strings,
relegate Mr Rocco to “one for the kids.”
It's a great shame, and no
surprise in fact that the highlight tracks “Holly
Grows,” and a little
song in the “Interlude,” feature little
but Danny Rocco himself.
Vocally, he's very Scene Aesthetic (another who
sound better acoustic!)
particularly in “Outta Sight,” one
more great track.
I'm sure on his own, this chap is the nuts. But
like this, sorry pal.
3/5
