As I write this, Lily Allen is currently at number
one with her latest single release ‘The Fear’
, the song see’s Lily Allen back better than
ever, the lyrics are extremely witty and the overall
feel of the song is extremely catchy with Lily’s
vocals sounding better than ever. Her new album
‘It’s Not Me, It’s You’
has also just been released on Regal Recordings
and I would imagine that is also on its way to being
number 1 in the album charts once they are announced
at the weekend as ‘It’s Not Me, It’s
You’ is really good, in fact it’s so
much better than Lily’s very successful ‘Alright,
Still...’ album.
Most people know that Lily Allen, became famous
mainly due to her MySpace page that she is forever
updating, she probably has more friends within
the MySpace network than anyone else who uses
the site and the best thing about it is that she
actually interacts with her fans unlike some people
who just accept people but don’t do anything
with the people they have accepted, if you go
over and check out her MySpace page her friend
count is going up daily and there are so many
positive comments about her album which is proof
to me that her hardcore original fans love the
album and she has also attracted a whole new bunch
of fans.
You are probably wondering in what way ‘It’s
Not Me, It’s You’ is better than Lily’s
debut album and to be honest I have to say in
every single way, the album is more witty with
really cleaver written lyrics, everything is bigger
and better sounding with a more polished sound
and each and every song on the album will make
you feel like dancing along to the new sound Lily
has developed.
The album starts with ‘Everyone’s
At It’, and it’s a song that points
the finger at pretty much everyone, from people
who are on crack to those on sleeping pills and
other bad things, the music to the song has quite
an old-skool dance feel about it, and Lily’s
vocals are quite mellow throughout.
The next song on the album is the current number
1 single ‘The Fear’ which is an outstanding
song. ‘Not Fair’ follows on from ‘The
Fear’, and happens to be a really catchy
song about sex, the lyrics are quite comical with
Lily singing about sleeping in the wet patch in
bed, and giving head whilst the man doesn’t
care as he likes to use her for sex, Lily has
a way with words and this is the perfect song
to hear the wittiness that comes out of Lily’s
mouth.
‘Back To the Start’ starts up with
some disco beats, in fact it sounds like it’s
going to off on a crazy assault like that Flat
Eric dance song with that irritating yellow cuddly
puppet, but luckily the song doesn’t go
off in this direction, instead it’s a fast
paced sing-along pop song with the odd dance beat
thrown in.
‘Never Gonna Happen’ starts off sounding
like a scene from a western movie, but then the
song goes on a really melodical ride and sounds
quite like the song ‘Alife’ from Lily’s
debut album.
One of the greatest moments from the album is
‘Fuck You’, seriously how many artists
do you know who can get away with writing a performing
a song called ‘Fuck You’ and making
it a really melodic sing-along track, this is
seriously going to become a fan favourite and
is going to go down a storm at future Lily Allen
live shows.
‘Chinese’ is a really strong song,
it’s a song about Lily’s mother who
is always there for her, during this song Lily’s
vocals sound really beautiful and really catchy
especially when she sings “I don’t
want anything more than to see your nice when
you open the door and make me beans on toast and
a cup of tea then we will get a Chinese and watch
TV”. This is Lily Allen at her best and
the best song on the album.
There has been a really long wait for ‘It’s
not Me, It’s You’ especially when
the album has been complete for a really long
time now, but let’s not worry about that
as the album is here now and it happens to be
one of the best pop albums I have heard in a long
time, now that’s probably not hard as I
don’t really listen to pop that often, but
seriously this is Lily Allen at her best, 12 well
written songs that could in fact pass for a Greatest
Hits album, I think artists like Kate Nash have
some hard work to beat the latest offering from
Lily Allen.
