Single

Shock shock horror, I have been waiting for the
new Guns N’ Roses for the past 15 years like
pretty much half of the world have and now the album
is actually here, finished and released I still
haven’t gone and got myself a copy of it,
mind you I did check out the lead single ‘Chinese
Democracy’ and have to admit overall I was
impressed with the song.
I suppose the only good thing about not owning
or listening to the new Guns N’ Roses album
is that when they release new singles I take a
fresher approach to reviewing the singles than
say someone who has listened to the album many
times over and formed an opinion on what songs
are good, what songs are bad and if it was really
worth the wait.
Guns N’ Roses have now chosen what song
they are going to release as the second single
from the album and they have also set a release
date, the song they have chosen is ‘Better’
and it is due for release on the 2nd February.
When I first put ‘Better’ on, after
about 20 seconds of listening to the song I actually
had to stop the song and open my cd player just
to check that the cd I put in actually said Guns
N’ Roses on it as it surly didn’t
sound like the band, the cd did say Guns N’
Roses so I put it back on and listened to it all
the way through and what I found out was if I
listened to the song for just a few extra seconds
I would have totally known it was Guns ‘N
Roses and realised that the song featured a strange
sounding introduction to confuse people.
Overall ‘Better’ is a good song,
but what I will say is that the song is a grower,
it seemed to appeal to me more and more after
each listen, it doesn’t really sound anything
like older Guns N’ Roses material and instead
it sounds like it’s very computerized, but
maybe that’s something the band decided
to do to make them sound more up to date, anyway
Axl’s vocals sound better than ever, the
lyrics are well written and there are also some
good guitar solos and stomping guitar riffs on
offer.
After what seems like a lifetime wait Guns N’
Roses have released a brand new album and two
cracking singles in the space of three or four
months am very impressed and feel that I should
head out and grab a copy of ‘Chinese Democracy’
because if the singles are anything to go by then
it’s going to be a great listen.
4/5
