Dropscience - There's An Awful Lot Of Weirdo's In Our NeighbourhoodDropscience - There's An Awful Lot Of Weirdo's In Our Neighbourhood

Now this is something that we need to survive the cold, bitter, boring winter months, a 6 piece ska/punk band by the name of Dropscience who play really happy upbeat music. The band’s debut EP is called 'There's An Awful Lot Of Weirdo's In Our Neighbourhood' and I am pretty sure that everyone can relate to that title as just in the small town I live in there’s far too many weirdo’s that I wouldn’t even be able to count them on my hands and toes.

The Ep starts with 'Jack The Lad' and its full of bouncy signature ska riffs, really raw vocals and repetitive lyrics of "Jack The Lad, He’s Jack The Lad", the lyrics are so raw sounding in places which makes you think that front man Phil Cain wouldn’t sound too far out of place in Rancid if they ever needed a new vocalist.

'Cocaine Nation' is another bouncy, jump up and down tune, with lyrics about how the majority of the nation is snorting cocaine and how the amount of users rises on a daily basis, now this isn’t the best themed song, but the lyrics are well written and you can’t help but laugh your way through the song.

If any of the songs on Dropscience debut EP are going to get your feet moving then 'Seratonin Rollercoaster' is more than likely going to be the song that’s going to get you moving the most, the song is fast and catchy from start to finish and crammed full of bouncy riffs.

The EP finishes with 'M-16', the song is the shortest song on the EP running for just under 2minutes and its quite a fierce and hectic short track which has enough power to leave you hanging from your light bulb after you finish bouncing off your walls whilst trying to knock off as much energy as this six piece.

Dropscience have come around at the right time and unleashed their say it as it is brand of ska/punk, it’s fun, its upbeat, it will make you dance your tits off and it might even leave you questioning the themes of their songs.

These guys are great but I certainly wouldn’t want to meet them down a dark ally, after all maybe the EP is named after themselves.

4/5
