After reviewing the latest Attack! Attack! single
'You And Me' just a few days ago and spending a
weekend traveling to and from London by train and
listening to the debut Attack! Attack! album on
repeat during my journeys, I think it’s about
time that I reviewed the album.
For those who still don’t know, Attack!
Attack! are a four piece band from South Wales
and each member of the band have enjoyed minor
success in the past from playing in various different
South Wales based bands such as Dopamine, Adequate
Seven, Pete's Sake and many others, but I have
to say that none of those bands were anywhere
as good as what Attack! Attack! are.
Attack! Attack! are a really underrated band
but luckily people are slowly starting to pick
up on them, their debut self titled album is ten
tracks long and runs for just over 30 minutes
and it is a blast from start to finish, the album
is full of honest sounding poppy punk tracks that
are crammed full of energy and played with passion,
each and every track on the album is extremely
radio friendly and could be released as singles,
seriously the album is that good once it has finished
you will be reaching for the repeat button.
The album starts with 'Honesty' and not to sound
to cheesy but as I said above every song on the
album is an honest slice of poppy punk, within
seconds of the song starting you will find yourself
humming along to the song whilst trying to remember
the lyrics for the song, after a couple more listens
of the song you will know it word for word and
will sing-along doing your very own Attack! Attack!
style karaoke in the comfort of your own bedroom.
The second track on the album is the new single
'You And Me' the song is a proper foot tapping
sing along song, the chorus is massive sounding
and it will only be a short matter of time before
you find yourself singing along to Neil Starr's
Patrick Stump style vocals.
It’s pretty damn impossible to pick a favourite
track from the album as during each song you start
to think it’s your favourite song from the
album but as soon as the song finishes and the
next song starts you starting thinking the same
about that song and the same happens throughout
the album even after listening to it on repeat
time and time again.
The first single that was released from the album
is 'This Is A Test' the song starts off with a
heavy bass line, the guitars and drums soon come
in for a bit of jamming, then as soon as the vocals
come in you are taken on a 3 minute long melodic
journey, that makes you just want to move your
body to the beat.
'To Bad Son' is another beast of a catchy song,
that leaves you wanting to dance and sing-along
to, the song really reminds me of material from
the last Taking Back Sunday album 'Louder Now',
I can’t fully put my finger on why, but
it sounds so much like the direction Taking Back
Sunday were last seen taking.
Musically things go down a notch or two tempo
wise for 'From Now On', but don’t worry
the song is far from being depressing and the
start of load of average songs to fill up the
album, instead it’s a really soothing song
where Neil Starr really gets to shine with his
beautiful toned vocals, the backing music during
the song is kept to a minimal and everything just
fits in perfectly.
I am not going to carry on writing about the
rest of the songs as the album as they are all
just as good as the songs that I have written
about, the whole album is really accessible and
I think most people will find it hard to pick
a worthy fault about the album.
It might just be me but I hope most other people
get funny moments when you’re on a long
train journey and a really upbeat song comes on
your ipod and it brings a big gleaming smile to
your face and you really have the urge to get
up and start dancing and doing somersaults across
the train seats whilst rocking out and singing
along word for word, Attack! Attack! give me that
feeling, the whole 32 minutes of the album makes
me want to looser it up, but hopefully like with
me this starts off as an image in your head in
your own dream world but you don’t ever
bring it into reality making yourself look a loser
in front of hundreds of people from the general
public.
If you like Fall Out Boy, Panic At The Disco!,
Taking Back Sunday or even the 4FT Fingers then
you are going to love everything about Attack!
Attack!, the band are currently on the rise and
I believe that 2009 is going to be a huge year
for these four talented musicians, they are currently
working extremely hard in every way possible,
seriously how many bands do you see after gigs
outside the venue in the freezing cold mixing
with the crowd whilst attempting to sell an extra
couple of albums?
The success that Attack! Attack! truly deserve
will come to them in due course.
5/5
