Crime In Stereo - Selective WreckageCrime In Stereo - Selective Wreckage

In anticipation of their next album, ‘In My Head I’m Everyone But Me’ (to be released next year), Crime In Stereo have released a compilation of some of their best material from the last 8 years, and it’s packed with goodness.

Crime in Stereo show off their varied style to great effect in this short but sweet 10 tracker. There is a good mix of upbeat punk classics and slower, darker tunes. It’s filled with catchy riffs and melodies, the best probably being ‘Everywhere And All The Time’, which is the first track after the short opener.

Unfortunately, the production makes this sound a bit like a demo of a new band - the vocals are a little quiet and it’s hard to hear the lyrics. To make the most of it, you need to crank up the volume to get their full sound.

The high points of the track listing for me are probably ‘Love’ and ‘The Bride’, two of the middle songs. A change of pace comes with track nine - the comically named, ‘These People Ought To Know Who we Are And That We Are Here’ - which oozes with angry energy.

The last song, ‘Let Me Take You Out’, is also fantastic and completely unexpected. It’s a dark, brooding, but simple song, which ends the album with poignancy, and serves to remind you of the diversity which this band is capable of.

Sadly, it’s very short, clocking in at just over 23 minutes; but it’s a fast and intense album, and so enjoyable that you can listen to it over and over. It’s also one of those CDs that you can gain more from with each listen, and discover things you didn’t notice the first time around.

This album is a must for any hardcore Crime In Stereo fan, and would also be an excellent place to start for a new listener. If nothing else, it’s proof that punk is still alive.

4/5
