It’s good to see that poppy-punk is on the
rise again and it’s even better to see that
it’s the UK bands that are pretty much dominating
the scene at the moment, over the past 12 months
we have had some really good bands come from nowhere
to gain a really big fan base, for a start there
is Kids In Glass Houses who worked so hard and produced
such top songs that during the start of 2008 they
signed a major record deal with Roadrunner Records
who then released their extremely successful debut
album, You Me At Six are currently the band that
everyone in the UK are talking about and expecting
big things from them and success will come to them
as they are clocking up more fans on a daily basis
and the latest band that is easily going to rise
to the top of the scene is Attack! Attack!
Attack! Attack! Are a four piece band who formed
at the start of 2008 in a rundown industrial estate
on the outskirts of Cardiff, the members of the
band are not shy when it comes to the music scene
as they have all spent time playing in various
different South Wales based bands such as Dopamine,
Adequate Seven, Pete's Sake etc, all bands that
were well known in the underground, you can clearly
tell that the members of Attack! Attack! aren’t
new to the music as they have such a strong poppy-punk
sound that clearly couldn’t be created over
night with no previous band experience, anyway
their previous outings has helped Attack! Attack!
become the band they are.
The latest single from Attack! Attack! is called
'You And Me' and there are a few things that you
will notice within the first ten seconds of listening
to the song and first of all you will notice that
the introduction to the song sounds like some
of the introductions you would hear on Fall Out
Boy's 'Infinity On High' album, secondly you will
notice that Neil Starr's vocals sound so similar
to those of Patrick Stump from Fall Out Boy, which
will leave you with the conclusion that Attack!
Attack! are a Welsh band that sound more American
than they do Welsh, but in their defence it seems
that the only way to enjoy major success as a
poppy punk band, you need to either be American
or sound American and obviously Attack! Attack!
aren’t and can’t be the first statement
so have had to settle for the later one.
'You And Me' is on hell of a powerful poppy-punk
song that is full of melody, beats and a big sing
along choruses, the energy that is captured in
the song is immense and it just leaves you knowing
that these guys must play a really tight sounding
powerful live show.
Attack! Attack! are the next band that is going
to bring the glory home for the Welsh music scene,
my favourite band to come out of Wales has been
Kids In Glass Houses, I followed them from the
start and still love everything about their music
but I have confidence that Attack! Attack! are
going to become more successful than Kids In Glass
Houses as they have such a clean strong energetic
sound that is bound to get thousands of people
moving which will help them clock up a forever
growing strong fan base. 2009 is going to be the
year that these guys attack and by the end of
the year they will be back in Wales celebrating
the major success they truly deserve.
5/5
