Failsafe are one hell of a talented band and they
deserve all the success that they are going to get
now their new album 'The Truth Is' has just been
released. Failsafe are one of those bands that have
done things the right way by working their arses
off making a name for themselves in the UK underground
punk/rock circuit playing the toilet sized venues
in pretty much every town and city of the UK. I
first came across Failsafe in February 2005 when
they toured with my favourite UK underground band
at the time Phinius Gage, and they played at the
extremely small Two Pigs venue in Cheltenham, the
show was a blast I became a converted Failsafe fan
and purchased their album at the time 'What We Are
Today' which spent a lot of time spinning in my
cd player.
It’s now 3 years on since I saw Failsafe
play in Cheltenham and release their album 'What
We Are Today', the band have now left Deck Cheese
Records and signed a deal with Small Town Records
who have just released their new 11 track album
'The Truth Is', and in all honesty the album is
one of the best releases I have come across from
a UK band in a long time, you can certainly tell
that the bands constant touring and slaving away
has really paid off for them and it’s now
time for them to breakthrough and be a band for
the next generation of upcoming UK bands to look
up to.
Over recent months Small Town Records have signed
up some good bands and put out some great releases,
with the latest Fei Comodo mini album 'They All
Have Two Faces' being the labels biggest and best
release to date, well that is until now as 'The
Truth Is' has a 5 star rating written all over
it, the album can’t be faulted, it’s
really fast and energetic sounding with more melodies
than ever and some of the catchiest choruses you
have ever come across.
The album starts off on a big high with 'Only
If We Learn', the song is crammed full of big
and fast guitar riffs, bouncy bass riffs and the
dual vocals from Jim and Andy is what really makes
this song stand out from pretty much everything
else, the song is full of melody and the vocals
have that catchy feel that will rope you into
singing along, overall it’s a big sounding
and very impressive song.
'A Common Goal' has some really strong sounding
bass lines that really brings the song to life,
the vocals flow freely in a really infectious
way. 'Cities And Headlights' is the slowest and
most toned down song on the album but it still
manages to be impressive.
If you have MTV2 or have been watching Kerrang
TV a lot recently then you might have seen the
video for 'Hope' as the song is playing on those
channels quite often now, the song is great and
has the formula of a hit song in the way that
it has crunching guitar riffs, a huge chorus and
an all over rocking feeling, this is Failsafe
at their best and if this song doesn’t bring
the band a whole new range of fans then nothing
will.
The riffage on 'Mirror Mirror' is something the
Failsafe boys should be proud off, as the opening
riffs are meaty sounding full on rock riffs, the
song is a really infectious number with another
outstanding chorus that you won’t be able
to shake away.
Failsafe have worked hard to get to where they
are now and if they continue to work at the pace
and skill that they have been working at then
there will be no stopping these lads, they have
the energy of Kids In Glass Houses, the crunch
and heavy riffs of Finch and the overall greatness
of Brand New, now if that isn’t a winning
formula then I don’t know what is.
5/5
