Brighton based rockers Thoughts Collide formed in
the summer of 2005 and ever since then they have
been on a good journey, a journey to get recognised,
a journey too, because many peoples favourite bands
including themselves and a journey to be one of
the hardest working rock bands in the music scene
today and it looks like things have been quite positive
for these guys so far with many of the major named
magazines picking up on the band and saying a fair
few positive things about them, they have shared
stages with Gallows, Enter Shikari, Inme, Brigade
and even opened up The Taste Of Chaos in 2006 in
their home town of Brighton, now that is some achievement
especially considering these guys had only been
going for a year when that happened.
Now if you would like to fast-forward to the
later part of 2008, Thoughts Collide have not
long released their 5 track self-produced debut
EP called 'Sky High And Climbing' and I can now
see what all the hype is about as this EP is top
stuff from start to finish and it just leaves
me wondering why these guys are still unsigned
when their EP shows signs that these guys are
going to be a big part of the alternative music
scene in time to come.
'Sky High And Climbing' kicks straight off with
the first track 'I Guess You Just Weren't Built
For This', the opening of the track is filled
with loud drum rolls and it’s only seconds
before frontman Jason Dazleman's strong sounding
loud vocals come in, the song is crammed full
of crunching guitar riffs, strong vocals and an
all over melodic ride and to be fair that’s
pretty much what the whole EP is like from start
to finish apart from the additional spaced out
soundscapes that comes in every now and again
to give you a short break from the hecticness
these guys have to offer.
'Take It All' is another really strong sounding
track, once again the guitar riffs rule, with
the bands metal style riffs and frontman Jason
Dazleman's vocals flow freely in such a strong
loud way that verges on the melodic territory
without becoming too poppy, It seems that Thoughts
Collide have a lot of ideas and like to cram as
much as possible into each and every song and
this is something that impresses me and should
surely impress pretty much everyone else that
comes across this EP.
The best seems to be saved for last here with
the final track on the EP 'Give Me Your Voice'
being the track that stands out the most to me,
the song is loud and fast and has them playing
their instruments like there is no tomorrow, for
example the drum beats sounds like there is a
massive 100 people marching band blasting through
my speakers, the guitar riffs are equally as fast
and furious and bring out enough sound to please
the biggest of guitar geeks out there, the whole
song has been brought together really well and
brings excitement into your life.
If you like your hardcore bands like Alexisonfire,
Thrice, Fei Comodo and even InMe then I would
recommend that you give Thoughts Collide a bit
of your time and check out their debut album 'Sky
High And Climbing', as these guys are as fresh
and exciting as the bands I have just mentioned,
if not better than some of them.
Thoughts Collide are a multi talented band musically,
they can without a doubt write really strong sounding
songs, they can also craft them together really
well and the whole production of the EP is spot
on, it seriously can’t be faulted and this
is something that the band have managed to do
themselves, they deserve to be in the mainstream
of the music scene and I think if they play their
cards right then their time will come sooner or
later.
5/5
