The good old pirate sounding punk rockers Goldblade
have just created a Christmas song that they are
releasing as a single on the 8th December, the song
is called 'City Of Christmas Ghosts' and on first
listen you may well feel that you have heard the
song before and technically you might well of done
as the song is a re-recorded and re-named version
of a song called 'City Of Ghosts' which features
on their current album 'Mutiny'.
'City Of Christmas Ghosts' is a really cheery
upbeat melodic Christmas song, Poly Styrene features
on the song with guest vocals which sees her go
head to head with Goldblade frontman John Robb
with alternate lead vocals, the song tells a story
about the spirit of Christmas and a tale of lost
love and nostalgia for lost love and friends across
the festive period. The song has a bit of a Ramones
style feel to it, just check out the first 10
seconds of the introduction and you will clearly
see what I mean.
Christmas is a time for badly released Christmas
songs that have no meaning whatsoever with everyone
fighting for the Christmas number 1, luckily for
Goldblade they aren’t fighting for the Christmas
number 1 but I am sure if enough people hear about
this song then it will smash into the UK top 40
as it is the best Christmas song that has been
released since The Pogues released 'Fairy Tale
Of New York' all those years ago.
4/5
