Opening tracks are meant to give you a thirst for
more, right? Yeah, that's what I thought. "Accelerate"
makes me cringe and wince. Musically, it's quite
fantastic, but the vocals are so toneless and drab
that it sounds like Kraftwerk have reformed to make
some synthetic indie. I now find myself frantically
skipping through the album yearning for a song with
a vocal melody, I simply cannot work in these conditions.
Thankfully, the prank appears to be a one off.
Some of the tracks ooze influences from Libertines,
Dirty Pretty Things, and older Ash material –
with the addition of a sweeping synth here and
there. A strange combination of futurism and nostalgia
that would work surprisingly well if the monotonous
vocals were to sort themselves out or finish altogether.
Genuinely unimpressed.
3/5
