The new Guns N' Roses album 'Chinese Democracy'
is one of the most highly anticipated albums in
rock history mainly due to the fact that Axl Rose
has been promising something big for years and the
album has a set release date each and every year
but something crops up and the album doesn’t
get released, now this has been going on for years
now I have actually lost count on how many years
the general public have been waiting for new Guns
N' Roses material, well the album is finally here
and is due for release of the 24th November, a date
Axl Rose can’t go back on as the cd's have
already been printed and everything is set for release
date, the album is the first new Guns N' Roses since
1991 when they had the simultaneous release of 'Use
Your Illusions I' and 'Use Your Illusions II', and
a hell of a lot has changed since then, for a start
the band have gone through so many different line
up changes I am actually not sure who is officially
in the band now apart from Axl Rose, what I do know
is he is the only original member and that 'Chinese
Democracy' must have been the most expensive album
to make in rock history with millions of pounds
going into the creation of it.
There is still a couple of weeks wait until everyone
can get their hands on the new Guns N' Roses album
but in the meantime they have decided to release
a single from the album to help give it a bit
of extra exposure leading up to release date,
not that it needs that especially when Dr Pepper
are giving everyone in America a free can of their
drink because Axl Rose shocked them into actually
releasing the album, now that’s free promotion
if I have ever heard of it. Anyway the single
is the title track 'Chinese Democracy'.
Yes you are reading right Guns N' Roses have
released a new song in the form of 'Chinese Democracy',
the song is not like the usual old skool Guns
N' Roses epics that run for nearly 10 minutes,
instead 'Chinese Democracy' runs for 4 minutes
44 seconds and a good minute of that is filled
up with a really chilled soundscape filled introduction
that suddenly builds up when the guitar riffs
and drum beats kick in and soon after Axl's vocals
come in, Axl's vocals are quite strong sounding
and his vocal styles change throughout the song
from being quite gruff and growly sounding to
being more sing along in a rocking way, the guitar
solos throughout the song are quite outstanding
and very much guitar hero worthy and the song
ends with a slight explosion sound, which sounds
quite similar to what happens when you complete
a song on guitar hero, could Guns N' Roses guitar
hero be in the works? Let’s just not think
about it yet, after all it has taken at least
15 years to get this single released.
Overall 'Chinese Democracy' isn’t a bad
single, the main downside is that the song is
over far too soon whatever happened to the epic
10 minute long songs, anyway it’s not what
I was really expecting but to be honest I am not
really sure what I was expecting in the end as
it’s taken so long for this single to see
the light of day, in a way I’m sure myself
like many others was expecting something extra
special due to the amount of time Axl and the
rest of the boys spent on creating it, either
way I’m just glad a new Guns N' Roses single
is here and the album is to follow in a couple
of weeks that’s when I find out if it’s
been worth the wait.
4/5
