Underoath - Define The Great LineUnderoath - Define The Great Line

Underoath are back with 'Define The Great Line' which is the follow up to there 350,000 selling breakthrough album 'They're Only Chasing Safety'. This time the band have chosen Killswitch Engage guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz to produce the album and have come up with a heavy masterpiece this is hardcore at its best.

Spencer Chamberlain’s vocals are at the best on this album as he has the chance to sing, scream, shout and growl to the best of his ability, the whole band are musically talented and this shows throughout the whole album.

This album is aggressive from start to finish and starts off with 'In Regards To Myself' which happens to be one of the heaviest tracks on the album but also keeps the bands melodic edge, a perfect track to open the album with.

'There Could Be Nothing After This' is another great heavy track with blistering drums, good guitar riffs, Spencer Chamberlain’s scremo vocals and a few melodic moments thrown in for good measures. The track that follows on from this 'You're Ever So Inviting' starts off with a nice guitar introduction, which is quite uplifting before Spencer’s screamo vocals come in and the track picks up. Track five 'Salmarnir' has a very spiritual sound that runs through the whole track and also features a passage from psalm 50 read out in Russian, which is pretty unique.

The album finishes with 'To Whom It May Concern' which starts off being a mellow track until about three minutes in when the hardcore sound kicks in.

Overall I think this is the best album of Underoath’s career so far and has been produced really well and should easily sell a lot more than the bands previous album. This is definitely the best hardcore/screamo album I have heard so far this year.

5/5
