Shinedown are a really popular American band who
came on to the rock music scene back in 2003, the
band have enjoyed a lot of success in the states
with their albums and singles reaching high positions
in the American charts. The band have recently been
introduced to the UK thanks to them being picked
to support Disturbed on their recent UK tour, if
you missed them on the Disturbed tour and would
like to know what Shinedown are all about then you
are in luck as they are currently giving away a
4 track download on their website which is just
enough for you to get a true feel of Shinedown.
The new album from Shinedown 'Sound Of Madness'
is being released in early 2009 and will be the
bands debut UK release as their previous albums
are currently only available through import but
as soon as 'Sound Of Madness' is released the
earlier albums will follow on and be released
in the UK. If the new single 'Devour' is anything
to go by then 'Sound Of Madness' is going to be
well worth the wait.
'Devour' is one hell of a good song, the first
time I listened to it I thought it was good and
then after listening to it a few more times I
was totally hooked, the song starts off sounding
very much like Disturbed with frontman Brent Smith's
vocals sounding so much like Disturbed frontman
David Draiman when he's making his oddest sounds,
the introduction is also filled with some amazing
drum rolls that tend to get louder and louder
the more the song progresses in time. The chorus
is extremely fast and more catchy than the common
cold during the coldest times of the year, Brent
Smith also has a way of words and an even better
way in delivering them, his vocal style is extremely
powerful and help make him a good frontman that
you just have to take seriously.
If you have heard any other songs by Shinedown
then you will know that 'Devour' is a bit of a
change for the band but in the best possible way,
everything is still heavy and rocking but they
have decided to speed things up here and add a
bit of melody to their sound and the balance works
well. I am well looking forward to 'Sound Of Madness'
and believe that it could be the first great album
of 2009.
Shinedown are certainly a band to watch throughout
2009.
