Untamed - Insanity BoundUntamed - Insanity Bound

Untamed are a 5 piece metal band who formed in Peterborough, the band have quite a hectic sound which is partly due to the twin guitar attack, despite being hectic and loud sounding the band also keep it real with an all over retro sound. The guys started off by playing cover songs of Iron Maiden, Metallica, Judas Priest and many of the other old school metal bands before sitting down to pen their own songs which have now been going down well at their gigs for years.

The debut album from Untamed was called 'Nature's Messiah' and it was released in 2003, things have changed slightly since then with a number of different line up changes and things like that and obviously 5 years have passed since the release of their debut album and now they are ready to release their new 8 track album 'Insanity Bound'.

The album opens with 'Blood Soldiers' which has an introduction that sounds like a war going on with lots of gun fire and missiles going on, sounding like the band have spent too many hours playing Call Of Duty or Ghost Recon on the Xbox, the song runs well into the 6 minute mark, Jon Sampson's vocals are strong and really bring in the old school feel to the band, the dual guitar riffs are pretty big and heavy sounding. The song starts off as a really good listen but after about 3 minutes it starts to get repetitive and boring and drags on for far to long, the only thing that really saves the song is the riffage half way through the song which sounds like Colin James and Darren Macer are having a rock off with each other.

All of the 8 tracks on the album are worth a listen as the band are both vocally and instrumentally talented but I just feel that these guys are lacking on things, they bring nothing new to the scene, don’t get me wrong, they try extremely hard here but I think they try too hard in the way that most of the songs on the album run well into the 5 minute mark but tend to get boring and tedious just after they have been on for 3 minutes, this would be a really good effort if it came from a bunch of lads who were just starting off but sadly it’s these guys second album and I can’t see the cd being spun in my cd player again in a hurry.

2/5
