The opening track "Rise Of Agartha pt.1"
is really an introduction to the whole album, building
on clean reverberated plucks and ending up with
a tower of the devil's finest rawwwrrk, it runs
effortlessly into "Steps of Soloman" which
has the potential to scare children witless.
The instruments themselves are your typical heavy-metal,
of a fairly high standard, as you'd expect, but
the vocals fluctuate from the a ball-busting rumbling
growl to a generic weedy often pitch-less.
That said, metal isn't generally my cup of tea.
But there are moments of brilliance when the music
and vocal match each other perfectly - the chorus
of "Epidemic" for example. I'm actually
in love with it. So perhaps what I'm trying to
say is, I fucking hate the forementioned ' ball-busting
rumbling growl,' and I'm a big fan of melody.
That said, when the angry driving force is removed,
in "Hostage," it all seems a little
Funeral For A Friend, and hell's return at the
end of the track is quite welcome. It must be
all about the balance.
Besides the odd spot here and there, the general
vibe of the album doesn't really change much.
It really is your average day-to-day metal album
- although I can't say I listen to it on a regular
basis. There's nothing that grabs me and shakes
me by the shoulders, but it isn't bad, and for
it's intended audience, it's probably pretty good.
3/5
