So many people claim that the latest 'Greatest Hits'
style cd from Michael Jackson is a big cash in and
is not needed, that may well be the case but people
are still going to flock out in their millions to
buy a copy of the album. The album has been released
to mark the 50th birthday of Michael Jackson, we
all know that the man needs a bit of money after
wasting millions and we all know that Sony BMG are
a corporate company who would do pretty much anything
to get themselves a little bit of extra pocket money
so that’s pretty much how the 'King Of Pop'
came about. The only difference here is that the
album is the first of its kind in the way that the
17 tracks on the album were picked by the general
public, fans across the UK had 3 weeks to pick and
vote for their favourite Michael Jackson songs from
a list of 50 strong tracks which included pretty
much every popular Michael Jackson song that you
could imagine.
The album has pretty much all the hits that you
would expect from a Michael Jackson compilation
such as Billie Jean, Bad, Smooth Criminal, Thriller,
Black Or White, Beat It, Earth Song, in fact if
any of the songs that I just listed wasn’t
included on the album then it really wouldn’t
be a true Michael Jackson compilation as each and
everyone of those songs is great in its own way,
that’s why the first half of the album is
totally stunning and you won’t find yourself
skipping a track until you get to about track 10
and cant bear to listen to 'Rock With You' for the
hundredth time.
If you own the Michael Jackson 'Number Ones'
album then you might want to think twice about
getting this album, unless you are a Michael Jackson
collector that is, mainly due to the fact that
13 of the songs on this album are also on the
'Number Ones' which means there are 4 tracks on
this album that weren’t featured on his
'Number Ones' album and they are 'Wanna Be Startin’
Somethin' which is a song that’s a bit hit
or miss, it’s not great but it’s not
poor it’s just about listenable. 'Man In
The Mirror' is another song that’s featured
here but not on the 'Number Ones' album and the
song was one of my favourites when growing up,
it’s one of the slower Michael Jackson songs
but it’s a really powerful song that you
can listen to time and time again without getting
bored. His duet with Janet Jackson called 'Scream'
is also included on the album, the song is okay
but I couldn’t listen to it too much as
it doesn’t really have that lasting appeal.
And the final song that’s on 'King Of Pop'
and not his 'Number Ones' collection is 'They
Don't Care About Us' now this is one of the later
Michael Jackson songs and I think it’s one
of the stronger songs he has ever released, I
love it and am glad to see many Michael Jackson
fans love it too and have helped get it on this
'King Of Pop' album.
For value for money 'King Of Pop' can’t
be faulted as long as you don’t own one
of the many other Michael Jackson greatest hit
style compilation cd’s that are out there,
but then again if you are like me you get a greatest
hits cd listen to it religiously for a few months
and then leave it somewhere to gather dust for
years, maybe it’s about time to invest in
another or dust down the last Michael Jackson
compilation that you bought. Michael Jackson is
and always will be the most talented pop star
to grace the planet in my opinion, and yes 'King
Of Pop' is a bit of a cash in but it is worth
every penny if you don’t already own these
songs.
