Single

You know, there is absolutely no indication (besides
the CD sleeve,)
that the Elements new single “Holding Out”
was recorded this side of the
millennium. It's drowned with a sense of nostalgia,
both in the mixing
and mastering, and the song-writing too. The rhythms
in which the songs
are put together, and the vocal harmonies in the
chorus, just aren't
pressing my buttons, nor turning my knobs.
Dad-rock. Go to see a live band in a nice old-fashioned
pub with good
ales and a decent meals and you might run into
The Elements. To me,
that's where they belong. There's nothing wrong
with pubs that do music,
I'm a fan myself, but that kind of music that
works so beautifully with
it's settings doesn't bode so well for listening
at home, unless you
happen to live in a nice cosy character building
that vaguely resembles
the aforementioned pubs.
These guys clearly know how to play music. They've
been avid listeners
and have probably been mastering Rainbow's greatest
hits since the first
day they heard them, but it's almost like they're
stuck in the past.
I think despite not being too specialist in terms
of genre, the Elements
will attract quite a niche market as far as getting
their records bought
will go, but I wish them all the best.
3/5
