Funeral For A Friend have never really been a band
for me, when they came on the scene back in 2003
with their first single 'Juneau' and debut album
'Casually Dressed And Deep In Conversation' I couldn’t
get away from the band, every radio station I put
on the song would be playing, every music channel
I put on the TV, their video would be playing and
I couldn’t quite understand what the fuss
was all about and got to the stage of turning every
future Funeral For A Friend song off before really
giving it a chance, well that was until the band
came back with their third album 'Tales Dont Tell
Themselves', when I heard 'Into Oblivion (Reunion)'
the lead single release for the album I was hooked,
there was something about this song that I loved,
the song was put on repeat in my cd player for days
to come, I even went back and started checking out
the older Funeral For A Friend songs and albums
and found them quite listenable but no where near
as good as this new material that I was listening
to.
Just over a year on from the last Funeral For
A Friend release, the band are back and bigger,
better and more dedicated than ever, for a start
they have left Atlantic Records, the label they
have been on ever since they took the scene by
storm back in 2003 and have now gone on and made
their own record label which has been called Join
Us Records, all future funeral For A Friend material
will be released on this label, starting with
their next single 'Kicking And Screaming' on the
29th September and then to follow that up on the
13th October they will be releasing their fourth
album 'Memory And Humanity' which will be exactly
5 years to the day that they released their debut
album 'Casually Dressed And Deep In Conversation'
which in my eyes is quite impressive getting 4
albums out within 5 years as it takes some bands
5 years to get one album out.
'Kicking And Screaming' is just as good as the
title suggests, to be fair it won’t leave
you kicking, but it will make you go fucking mental
on the dance floor in rock clubs and the mosh
pit at the bands gigs and as for screaming well
you will be screaming for more new Funeral For
A Friend songs once you have listened to this,
but don’t worry too much as the new album
is just around the corner. 'Kicking And Screaming'
is really infectious and is full of melody, it’s
the kind of song that you would love to sing from
the top of a high rise building with a massive
megaphone as your microphone so everyone can hear
and see just how happy the song makes you feel.
The last quarter of the year is going to be a
busy one for Funeral For A Friend, the day after
the release of their fourth album they are heading
out on the road to tour solidly for the rest of
October the whole of November and well until the
middle of December, if they come by your way seriously
check them out as Funeral For a Friend are a band
who get better by age and they are currently at
their best.
5/5
