After enjoying major success in their home country
of Canada and also America, Finger Eleven are now
ready to unleash their sounds on the UK again and
try and conquer the UK market with what seems to
be their fourth studio album 'Them Vs. You Vs. Me'.
Only a couple of days ago I got hold of the bands
new single 'Paralyzer' to review and what a great
song it was it had after just a couple of seconds
of listening to the song I knew I was in for a treat
and that 'Paralyzer' was going to be a very enjoyable
song, and it totally was, I could listen to the
song over and over again and not get bored it has
that really good catchy and energetic feel about
it, since reviewing 'Paralyzer' I have been looking
forward to getting hold of the bands 'Them Vs You
Vs Me' album, and now I have I am quite dissapointed
with the final result.?
You are probably wondering what went wrong, what’s
made me not so keen on the album after I was looking
forward to listening to it on the backing of just
one great single, well with 'Paralyzer' Finger
Eleven had that cross over feel that combined
dance and rock music together whilst keeping everything
more on the rocky side of things rather than dance,
the song was big, it has hit single written all
over it and is certainly the kind of song that
will get the crowd going on the live circuit but
sadly the other ten songs on the bands fourth
studio album are not up to the high standards
of 'Paralyzer'.
The album starts off straight away with 'Paralyzer'
once the song finishes you are left on a high
thinking yes this is going to be a really good
listen, but it turns out not to be the case and
instead you are going on a downward spiral with
each and every song not living up to the high
expectations I had of the band and album. Finger
Eleven have stated that they wrote over one hundred
songs whilst creating the album and it seems to
me that they have either featured the wrong tracks
on the album or that the band really do struggle
to write killer songs and just ended up being
lucky whilst writing 'Paralyzer'.
Pretty much the whole album has that soft rock
feel about it, take 'I'll Keep Your Memory Vague'
for example the song is really chilled out and
ends up being a really clean sounding acoustic
song, it’s not played bad and overall is
not a bad song but it’s totally the opposite
from what I was expecting to hear on the album.
'Gather And Give', is another slow paced song,
but this song features a soothing electric guitar
piece running throughout instead of the acoustic
guitar, the vocals flow well but the song totally
lacks excitement.
Many people really love Finger Eleven, well they
must do for them to be so big in Canada and America
but they just don’t do it for me, I think
they are going to become the next band like Nickleback,
they become extremely huge but have a lot of people
who love the band and a lot of people who hate
the band equally, for me Finger Eleven are going
to be the kind of band that I check out at festivals
just to hear 'Paralyzer' before I go off and check
out another band. Maybe if I listened to the album
straight through without listening to their single
'Paralyzer' over and over again I might not be
as dissapointed, but it’s too late to find
out now. Don’t get me wrong Finger Eleven
are talented but the album is all filler no killer
and is simply not for me, it’s a shame really
considering I had such high hopes.
