Most of you will know Gavin Rossdale from his previous
musical adventures, the most successful being with
Bush, followed by Institute, and now he's solo.
Another Chris Cornell? Starting off with some kick
ass bands, having one solo hit featured on a film,
and then just generally being fairly shit? Pretty
much.
Skipping through this album, listening to vague
portions of songs, I just want to cry. Bush had
such appeal, the rocky awesome power and greatness
in general. Rossdale's latest material is more
like The Feeling than anything. Sissy poppy nonsense
that in all honesty, I don't have time for. It's
the kind of CD you'd by your Mum, unless she was
cool. I can see Rossdale fans the world over being
terribly disappointed with this. Corny gentle
songs with eighties pad undertones, no thanks
Gav.
If I had to choose a stand-out track, it would
be “If You're Not With Us You Are Against
Us,” because this is the only song that
even hints that this guy was even ever in Bush.
Although the verse includes an awfully out of
place reggae-style guitar chord on the off-beat,
the chorus packs a bit more punch than the rest
of the album and indeed sounds alright. Even if
it is only for the chorus.
But I don't know, I just feel a little let down
overall.
2.5/5
