To Catch A Thief are a five piece band from Scotland,
they are well known in the UK underground scene
and are now starting to get their music out to a
wider audience after playing shows with Elliot Minor,
InMe and Flood Of Red and in a couple of months
time the bands debut EP 'Your Eyes Will Burn' will
be released, and to be fair it’s quite a solid
EP for a debut release.
The debut EP from To Catch A Thief has been produced
by Romesh Dodangoda who is well known for his
work with Funeral For A Friend and more recently
Kids In Glass Houses, so you pretty much instantly
know that 'Your Eyes Will Burn' is going to have
some good moments, as Romesh doesn’t fuck
about when it comes to producing music. Also To
Catch A Thief don’t seem to fuck about when
it comes to their music, the whole band are talented
musicians who can clearly play their instruments,
just listen to the EP and you will see that the
band are really tight sounding and play with passion.
To Catch A Thief are also talented lyric writers
with songs appearing on the EP with themes of
death, relationships and also the struggle with
the music industry for musicians.
As much as To Catch A Thief have everything going
for them does the music scene really need another
band like this? As to be fair To Catch A Thief
are playing the same kind of music as so many
bands that are around at the moment and their
is nothing that really makes them stand out from
the other bands, well technically the scene doesn’t
really need another band like this and if To Catch
A Thief were ignored and got no where it would
be easy to understand as there are to many bands
around at the moment trying to catch attention
by playing the same style of music as everyone
else and at the end of the day their is only enough
room for a small majority of these bands to succeed
whilst the others struggle to conquer the underground
or stay together as a band. But saying that, their
is something about To Catch A Thief that makes
me want them to succeed and I’m not quite
sure if it’s Ali Lanes impressive clear
vocals, the killer guitar riffs, the catchy edge
or Romesh Dodangoda's impressive production duties
or maybe a mixture of all of the above.
Take a listen to 'We Are The Cancer' and you
will get an understanding of everything that I
have mentioned above as the song features the
most clear and catchy sounding vocals on the whole
EP, there are some screams thrown in for good
measures as well but they are kept to a minimum,
the guitar riffs are never ending and pretty impressive,
'We Are The Cancer' has hit single written all
over it and I really hope To Catch a Thief choose
to release the song as a single as it’s
the best the EP has to offer.
To Catch a Thief are certainly on the right tracks
to success, they are talented musicians, they
are also working with the right guys who are no
strangers to getting good results and helping
bands step up a gear or two into the mainstream,
To Catch a Thief aren’t mainstream material
at the moment but the next 12 months that the
band spend promoting their debut EP release 'Your
Eyes Will Burn', and touring constantly will only
make them stronger and help them break into the
mainstream in the future.
