Scars On Broadway are a band that have a lot of
hype surrounding them at the moment, their self
titled debut album has been long coming and will
finally be released at the end of July with quite
of lot of people having high expectations from the
album and it’s easy to see why when you realise
two of the main members of the band are Daron Malakian
and John Dolmayan from System Of A Down.
The debut single from Scars On Broadway is 'They
Say', and the single is being released a week
before the album to give the album that extra
bit of exposure before its release via the single.
When you first listen to 'They Say', the first
thing you will notice is they are pretty heavy
and have some chunky guitar riffs just by listening
to the first 20 seconds of the song, the second
thing you will notice is that they sound a hell
of a lot like System Of A Down, now this is down
to Daron Malakian being the main song writer within
System Of A Down and also being the second vocalist
in the band and when you have such a unique vocal
style as Daron does, you are going to find it
hard to shake off the sound from your previous
extremely successful band. But saying that, Scars
To Broadway don’t sound exactly like System
Of A Down they have added lots of electronic sounds
and have adopted a sound that’s quite melodic
yet quite aggressive at the same time and it works
really well for 'They Say', it is a song that
totally lives up to the high hopes everyone has
from Scars On Broadway.
'They Say', is the closest sounding song you
are going to get to some new System Of A Down
sounding material for a long time, as Serj has
gone solo and gone for a pretty average sound
and Scars On Broadway have stayed more to their
System Of A Down roots but added a lot more dynamics
to the music and to be fair I wouldn’t be
too bothered if System Of A Down never make a
come back as Scars On Broadway have such a strong
and powerful sound and I’m pretty hyped
about the release of their self titled debut album
which is due for release at the end of the month.
