Fony are back with their third album 'Mercy After Fiction' which happens
to be there first release on Headroom Records. The band also see themselves
with a new vocalist 'Fraser' after the departure of 'Olly Gibbsons' whose
unique vocals made you want to listen to Fony.
So with a new singer on board the band have also slightly changed there
sound to go with it, but does it work as well?
The album starts with 'Here Comes The Dark Horses’, which is quite
a quiet mellow track with down beat vocals, which happen to work well
with the new sound. 'A To Breathe' seems pretty similar in sound and at
points seems like its going to take off into some crazy rock moments and
then suddenly goes back to mellowness, which is a bit of a let down.
'Waco' starts off like it’s going to be heavier song but once again
slows down.
The album seems to never pick up it starts to sound like it is then it
lets you down. If you’re expecting stomping riffs and catchy moments
like from the bands hit song 'Chore Again' your going to be totally disappointed.
Overall the album is ok but everything seems to sound the sound and you
just find yourself switching off, as there’s no catchiness or standout
songs on it. If you’ve never heard the old Fony you might like this
but I personally want the bands old style back.
2/5
