Lauren Harris is the daughter of Iron Maiden leader/founder
member, Steve Harris, she is only 23 and started
her music career back in 2005, she has since been
busy touring with Iron Maiden, Alice Cooper, The
Answer and also doing her own headline tour with
her backing band, during time out from her hectic
touring schedule Lauren Harris has been busy working
on her debut album 'Calm Before The Storm' on and
off for the past 3 years, the album is now finished
and finally getting released on the 23rd June which
is just over a week after her performance at the
Download festival in the UK.
'Calm Before The Storm' is a really enjoyable
album, it features 12 tracks, some are rocking,
some are more laid back but all the tracks feature
really catchy elements. The album opens with 'Steal
Your Fire', which is the lead single release from
the album, the song opens up with a big guitar
solo, the drums soon come in giving you a feel
of Hanoi Rocks but then Lauren's clear strong
vocals come in adding poppyness to the songs overall
sound, there are some great guitar solo's on offer
here.
The hooks and catchy vibe in 'Your Turn' is enough
to get anyone going mad on the dance floor, the
song is very poppy and is really radio friendly
and this is pretty much how most of the songs
are throughout the album.
Lauren has chosen to go down the rock route with
her music but not the same heavy rock route that
her dad has been playing for most of his life
in Iron Maiden, instead Lauren has chosen the
more commercial poppy rock route and it suits
her and works well and I can’t quite imagine
her with raw shout a long vocals especially when
she has such a beautiful singing voice.
The standout track from the album has to be 'Get
Over It', the song is extremely catchy and is
poppy rock at its best, the guitars are more rocking
than you would expect from a commercial rock band,
with killer guitar solo's popping up throughout
the song, but it’s Lauren's standout melodic
vocals that really makes the song standout.
I really like Lauren Harris's music, I am sure
there will be a lot of people who put her down
claiming her not to be a real rock star due to
the poppyness of her vocals and claiming that
she has only got where she is because she has
a famous dad, but I don’t think that is
the case, the band do have a rocking sound and
have enough killer guitar riffs and solo's to
match most rock bands that are out there these
days but it is Lauren's vocals that really do
bring something different to the band and makes
them stand out from the rest. Lauren Harris is
a true rock star and her band have a bright future.
