Tonight Is Goodbye are a really talented band and
their debut EP 'The Birds And The Bees' was a great
starting point for the band, it only featured 4
tracks but gave you a real feel of what Tonight
Is Goodbye are all about, the EP along with there
solid sound and killer live shows helped the band
play the Taste Of Chaos Tour at Brixton Academy,
and has helped them support some really big upcoming
bands such as You Me At Six and Kids In Glass Houses
as well as their own headline tour around the toilet
sized venues of the UK's underground pop punk scene.
During all the touring, Tonight Is Goodbye have
found time to write and record their second ep 'Castles'
which is due for release at the start of July.
'Castles' is a great release and is slightly
better than the bands debut ep release 'The Birds
And The Bees', this time around the band have
gone for 6 songs on the ep and each song is extremely
melodic, full of hooks and is poppy at heart which
is something Tonight Is Goodbye should be very
proud of as they are true to themselves and play
the kind of music they enjoy.
The extremely poppy 'Brain' opens up the EP,
the guitars are even more outstanding than they
were on the bands earlier material and frontman
Ant West's vocals are more melodic than ever,
the song has a overall bouncy radio play feel
about it.
The guitar playing on 'Lucky Boy' is hard hitting
but quite catchy at the same time, and frontman
Ant West's vocals are melodic yet get heavy in
places, the song is full of energy and so listenable.
'Noughts And Crosses' has some of the most technical
instrumental work I have heard from Tonight Is
Goodbye, the guitar riffs are impressive and chopping
and changing throughout the song, the drumming
is constant and stands out well and the bass lines
are as catchy as hell.
One of the highlights from the EP is 'Nobody
Cares' the song starts off with some fast constant
drumming before the song shoots off into melodic
territories with frontman Ant West singing "Nobody
cares about the other person, nobody cares that
all our problems have worsened" the instrumental
work towards the end of the song is outstanding
starting off quite bouncy yet quickly getting
louder and heavier. The actual end of the song
takes a Brand New style turn with the song totally
changing in direction with eerie soft spoken vocals
and really chilled soundscapes running until the
song finishes.
'Fire In The Hole' is a pure radio friendly dance
along song. The track that finishes the EP is
the title track 'Castles' which happens to be
the most mature and serious sounding song on the
EP, it’s really slow in pace and a lot different
from the rest of the ep, the track is quite epic.
Things are still going in the right direction
for Tonight Is Goodbye especially with two solid
sounding EP's under their belts and many tours
supporting some of their favourite bands and another
upcoming tour supporting You Me At Six. It is
only a matter of time before Tonight Is Goodbye
have the exposure they truly deserve.
