Guns On The Roof - Last OrdersGuns On The Roof - Last Orders

Guns On The Roof are a four piece street punk band from Leeds, I have managed to see the band on the road a number of times for the past couple of years supporting some of the brightest UK punk bands such as 4FT Fingers and The Anti Nowhere League. Over recent years the UK punk scene seems to have been deserted with bands leaving the scene quicker than they came on the scene, however over the past 6 months the scene seems to be coming back and stronger than ever with The Gallows hitting the mainstream, 1000 Hertz having an equally good sound, the 4FT Fingers returning for their biggest and longest tour in years and Guns On The Roof still taking the scene by storm with their fast and passionate sound.

'Last Orders' is the new ep from Guns On The Roof, it may only be 3 tracks in size and just under 11 minutes in length but that’s more than enough time for you to get a feel of what Guns On The Roof are all about. The ep kicks off with 'Last Orders', the song is fast and is crammed with punk attitude and style, think of a poppier version of early Rancid and you will be pretty close to knowing what Guns On The Roof sound like, now I don’t mean poppy as in what all the big American bands sound like singing about ex-girlfriends and being dumped, Guns On The Roof are a proper punk band, you can clearly see punk is in their heart, they just have a slight catchy edge.

'Michael Myers' has such a strong introduction, the guitars are really bouncy sounding and the strong sounding lead vocals are backed up with shouts of "woah", the song is extremely fast and quite an anthem, the midway chants of "Michael Myers" are what punk’s all about.

Now punk seems to be on the rise again in the UK, but it’s going to take a lot for the scene to become the in thing again especially when the British are really into their indie music and emo dress sense, give it a year or so when the emo scene has been and gone and hopefully this will give the punk scene chance to rise out of the underground. Guns On The Roof are a talented band and are up there with the Strawberry Blondes and some of the other great bands in the underground punk circuit.

4/5
