Blues And Snake are a four piece band from Manchester,
the band are heavily obsessed with skulls, tattoos,
motorbikes and heavy metal music such as White Zombie
and Rob Zombie, Now no prizes for guessing the sound
that Blues And Snake have gone for.
The bands self titled debut album is quite an
interesting offering, it’s 12 tracks long
and runs for a mere 28 minutes, the album is pretty
heavy in sound, the vocals are quite screamy punk
sounding, the guitars are loud and the drumming
sounds quite tinny which is mainly due to the
amateur sounding recording, there are also quite
a lot of blues elements in the bands sound.
The album opens with 'You've Strick Gold' and
the opening guitar riff is huge, the drumming
also stands out really well, frontman Ash Hunter's
vocals soon come in but don’t sound a bit
drowned out due to what sounds like bad recording,
but overall the song hits all the right notes.
'Fine Just Fine' is a really raw punk sounding
shout along song.
One of the best offerings on the album has to
be 'Sailing To The Moon’, the song is absolutely
mental and has a lot going on, it’s the
kind of song that will have you bouncing off the
walls of your room, it’s so random but so
good at the same time.
In between some of the songs on the album the
band use some recorded vocal sound clips such
as on the start of 'Fine Just Fine' and also on
the start of 'Unforgivable', the sound clips are
nothing exciting but adds to the overall randomness
of the bands sound.
The overall recording quality of Blues And Snakes
self titled debut album is quite poor, but the
overall sound of the band is quite interesting,
they have quite a lot going on at once and have
an overall really hectic sound, Blues And Snakes
aren’t going to be your next favourite band
and they aren’t going to suit everyone,
but they are definitely worth giving a listen
as you just might be surprised by the bands sound.
