Rejects United are a four piece band from Lisbon
in Portugal, the band have a wide range of influences
from Foo Fighters to My Chemical Romance, yeah I
did say the range was quite wide. You can clearly
see elements of some of the bands influences in
their music but they sound nothing like some of
their influences, well apart from the fact that
their overall sound is a mix of rock and punk.
The band have come up with a 14 track album titled
'Boyhood Survival Kit' the album has a slight
concept theme about a boy who loses his mind when
he suffers yet another rejection and explores
how this can affect a persons mental state, seems
like a good idea for an album.
I always think a band should start their album
with a strong song because if the opening song
is really weak then there is a strong chance that
you won’t give the album much more of a
listen, Rejects United start off with a chilled
out spoken word introduction that really doesn’t
do the band any justice what so ever but it’s
easily forgivable as it only runs for 37 seconds
and the next track 'Never (Rejects Anthem)' is
quite a stomping punk rock track that oozes with
attitude and energy, everything is fast paced
from the riffs to the vocals.
The opening guitar work in 'Dead In Head' are
pretty impressive, they slowly build up to some
Rage Against The Machine style riffage and this
style continues to run throughout the song, the
vocals are quite Velvet Revolver sounding.
The whole album is full of big openings and impressive
guitar work, with some of the best work on show
on songs such as 'Lust Ode', 'Learning Through
Mutilation' and 'Isn't Necrophilia Fun?’.
You can clearly tell the Rejects United are influenced
by huge American bands such as Rage Against The
Machine as some of the riffs on offer here are
so close to that of Rage and the riffs that aren’t
sound huge in their own way.
I totally recommend giving Rejects United a listen
the band have a huge sound, they may not be original
but they surely know how to play their instruments
and are talented at writing songs especially considering
the long concept of the album.
