Fifteen months ago one of the worlds biggest punk bands 'Blink 182' went
on an indefinite hiatus. Tom Delonge walked away from this with many ideas
and plans. He recruited ex Distillers bassiest Ryan Sinn, Offspring drummer
Tom Willard and ex Boxcar Racer guitarist David Kennedy and formed Angels
And Airwaves.
Over the past 6 months, Delonge has quoted how this is the best music
he has ever made and everyone will be blown away with how good his new
band are, and with an all star line up its hard not to believe his words.
Well the debut album 'We Dont Need To Whisper' is here and the results
are stunning. If you expect it to be similer to a Blink 182 album and
full of cock jokes your going to be totally dissapointed as everythings
on a more
serious theme with songs about War, broken freinships and love. Welcome
to a more mature serious Tom Delonge. Welcome to Angels And Airwaves.
The album starts with 'Valkyrie Missile' which starts up with a long cinematic
spacey intro', before Tom Delonge's vocals come in at two minutes and
forty seconds. And sounding better than ever before. 'Distraction' starts
up with a elctro sounding introduction and drums getting louder and louder.
Then Delonge's vocals come in "I'll be your distraction". Over
all the song is good but sightly repetative. 'Do It For Me Now' totally
does it for me. The lyrics are well written and once again the vocals
shine.
Track number four is the bands debut single 'The Adventure' which starts
off with another stunningly long intro, has some great guitar riffs, well
written lyrics about new beginnings and things being re-grown and uplifting
vocals, and you just cant help but singalong to this masterpiece.
My favourite track on the album has to be track number six 'The War'.
It's pure rock music with some stunning heavy powerchords, blistering
drums beats, Delonge's unique vocals; which sounds best for the chorus
"Why won't
you tell me that it's almost over? Why must this tear my head inside out?".
The song also features a lots of "woahhhhh ohhhhhh woaahhhh"
half way through.
'Start The Machine' finishes the album off. It starts with a chimey introduction
which quietly runs throughout most of the song, and has lyrics about not
saying sorry. A good finish to the album.
Over all this is one of the best debut albums I have heard in a long time
and has definitely been a great adventure.
5/5
