EP

I first come across The Getaway Team a week or so
ago when I listened to their debut single 'Lost
All Hope', the song has been spinning around in
my head daily ever since I first heard it due to
the extremely infectious nature of the song. The
song is a poppy indie track more in the style of
the Holloways than your average well known indie
bands such as the Kaiser Chiefs. I have been looking
forward to the debut ep from The Getaway Team since
I first heard their single and I am now happy to
of finally got hold of it. The debut ep from The
Getaway Team is called Haven’t You Heard and
features 5 really energetic tracks that is really
going to brighten up your summer if its as shocking
weather wise this year as it was the last.
The ep opens up with 'I Regret', the song is
the shortest song on the ep running at just over
2 minutes, which isn’t a bad thing as the
song is a kick arse tune from start to finish,
the fast infectious vocals come in from the start
and the bass line is extremely bouncy along with
the fast guitar work, 'I Regret' is one of the
happiest upbeat songs that I have heard in a long
time, the only problem is that the song does seem
to be over far to soon but that’s mainly
due to how good it sounds.
The indie feel of 'Not What I Signed Up For'
show that The Getaway Team aren’t one trick
ponies and can craft more than one decent song
and can change their musical styles around slightly
when they want. 'Not What I Signed Up For' is
more of a pure indie song, the guitars are totally
different sounding from the opening track and
the "oh oh oh" backing vocals work extremely
well, the overall feel of the sound is more indie
based and lacks the bounciness of the previous
song.
The band return to the bouncy sound for 'Happier
For Real' the song is extremely fast and the riffs
are quite bouncy sounding, the vocals are smooth
and really easy to pick up on especially during
the sing a long chorus.
The highlight of the ep has to be the bands current
single 'Lost All Hope', it’s extremely fast
paced and really catchy, it has radio play and
chart hit written all over it, it’s quite
rare to come across debut singles sounding this
good nowadays as everyone seems to sound like
something you have heard before, this is where
The Getaway Team and this single is the chance
for the band to imprint their name on the poppy
indie scene.
The ep ends with 'Make Pretend', the track starts
off really slow with minimal backing music and
really laid back sounding vocals, over time the
song does pick up in pace and sound and turns
out to be quite an energetic indie song then ends
with loud shouts of "I can not go" which
was quite unexpected but quite an interesting
addition.
The Getaway Team are a fun band, they have a
really upbeat sound that is sure going to be recaptured
live at some of the festivals in the summer and
that is probably the best place to experience
The Getaway Team, out side in a dirty field in
the middle of the summer enjoying a nice cold
pint of beer with the bands bouncy music blasting
out into your ears, sounds quite perfect to me.
The band aren’t doing anything particularly
new but you just can’t help but love their
sound.
4/5
