A New Day - Perfect PassionA New Day - Perfect Passion

A New Day have hailed from Llantwit Major in South Wales and have been together since 2002, the band have been through a number of line up changes with members coming and going through the years but the band hasn’t let that bother them but instead they keep coming back fighting stronger, only a few months ago the band were unsigned, but now they have inked a deal with Lockjaw Records who will release their 6 track EP Perfect Passion on the 19th May.

The band are clearly influenced by punk rock bands such as The Disappointments, Failsafe, A Wilhelm Scream and many of the harder sounding punk bands around at the moment. The album starts off with 'A1 B2 C3' the song is fast, off the mark and hard hitting, the drumming is constant and on time, the guitars are fast and furious and have punk written all over them, frontman Calum Fox's vocals are loud and clear yet quite raw and aggressive sounding in places giving the song an overall punk feel.

Toned down drumming opens 'Letters To Grace', about 40 seconds into the song the guitars slowly start to appear as the drumming gets more constant and more louder and when the song hits the minute mark, the guitar riffs come in thick and fast with stand out drumming cropping up all over the place, the vocals are once again quite raw and shouty sounding with more sing a long melodic backing vocals which seems to work really well.

The opening guitar work to 'More To A Hero Than Saving The Day' is top stuff, the drums once again really stand out and the song in general is pretty hard hitting.

Punk rock is a hard scene to master and standout from the crowd, A New Day are talented musicians especially Martyn Edwards whose drumming is simply amazing. But the main downside to A New Day is the fact that their sound isn’t unique and it isn’t different from what other bands in the scene are offering, nevertheless A New Day are definitely worth checking out, just don’t hold your hopes on finding your new favourite band here.
