Slaves To Gravity are a band you have to love, the
band are a four piece dirty sounding rock band from
London, the band is made up of Tommy Gleeson (vocals,
guitar), Toshi Ogawa (bass, vocals), Jason Thomopoulos
(drums) and Mark Verney (guitar, vocals) each member
of the band has their own individual look whilst
keeping to the black dressed theme of the band,
they have an outstanding live show that you wont
forget in a hurry and have already had three hit
singles, the first being their debut single 'Big
Red' which is a big sounding pure rock song, the
second 'Meantime' features some chunky guitar riffs
and quite a rocking yet catchy chorus and the third
single 'Mr Regulator' is a spot on anthemic song
that has been the best release out of the bands
three singles.
The hyped up debut album Scatter The Crow is
finally here it runs at over 50 minutes and features
13 huge sounding rock songs, if you have liked
the bands previous single releases then you will
love Scatter The Crow as it features the 3 singles
plus 10 other classic tracks.
Big monstrous meaty guitar riffs open up the
album with 'Heaven Is A Lie', which also sets
the pace for the next 50 minutes, the whole album
is full of meaty riffs and a lot of groove which
is so easy to get into, most songs on the album
features the same style of music but ends up sounding
huge in their own way.
There are a few chilled out moments on the album,
the first is 'Doll Size', the song sounds a lot
different from anything else Slaves To Gravity
have done and could easily be compared to Chris
Cornell's current solo material due to the stripped
down guitars and frontman Tommy Gleeson's vocals
sounding so close to that of Chris Cornell. The
second chilled out song is 'LG Halo' another outstanding
song with some great guitar solos.
Every album has a stand out moment and the stand
out moment here has to be 'Burning Robe' the song
starts with some fast and heavy constant drumming,
the fast guitars soon come in and before you know
it Tommy Gleeson's vocals come in faster than
you have heard before, the song is full of groove
and melody and instrumentally sounds like something
the Zico Chain would play.
The album finishes with the third and final chilled
out song on the album 'Rosa And The Ocean Blue'
the song features Tommy Gleeson strumming an acoustic
guitar and softly spoken vocals which brings the
album to an interesting end.
The band seem to out do themselves with each
release and Scatter The Crow is going to follow
in the footsteps of the bands previous releases
and shoot straight to the top of the UK rock album
chart. It’s been a long time since a new
British rock band has come along full of potential
with huge meaty riffs, catchy hooks and an overall
huge sound that is recreated song after song.
Slaves To Gravity have a bright future and 2008
is going to be their biggest year to date.
