After seeing Trivium gracing the covers of most alternative magazines
at the moment, and being decribed as the most exciting metal band by most,
I decided I would check out there second full length release “Ascendancy”.
The album starts of with a nice sounding acoustic guitar and piano intro
and then blasts into “Rain” with its heavy riffs and screaming
vocals.
“Pull Harder On The Strings Of Your Martyr” is the next track.
It's the track that stands out the most to me, with its heavy as fuck,
mad drum beats and a mixture of screaming, roaring vocals and mellow tones;
which work really well.
“Drowned And Torn Asunder” and “The Deceived”
are great heavy fast songs. Both start of with heavy riffs and screaming
vocals, move into a mellow chorus and then back to the guitars and screaming
once more.
The album finishes with “Declaration” a seven minute long
track that starts off loudly, like every song on the album, but changes
style and goes soft a minute into the song. It’s a great song to
finish the album, with its many changes in sound and a great solo thrown
in for good measure.
Overall this album is stunning from start to finish and Matt Heafy’s
vocals are simply amazing he has a stunning voice and pulls off the whole
screaming/singing really well. These guys can play brilliantly and at
such a young age too. Trivium are going to go far. This album rocks.
4/5
