Time Again formed back in 2004 and have spent a
lot of time on the road touring all over the US
and Canada as well as playing festival stages across
Europe. The band released their debut album ‘The
Stories Are True’ back in 2006 and are now
back with their second full length album Darker
Days which is being released on Tim Armstrong from
Rancid's Hellcat Record label.
Darker Days is a 14 track street punk album that
is really heavily influenced by Rancid which you
can clearly tell by both the vocals and the instrumental
work. Time Again could clearly pass as a Rancid
cover band and if you heard Time Again on the
radio for the first time you would instantly think
you are listening to Rancid as frontman Daniel
Dirt's vocals sounds extremely similar to Rancid's
Tim Armstrong, themes on Darker Days are also
quite similar to what Rancid have covered in the
past.
'Day Like This' opens up Darker Days with its
fast standout bass line, constant drumming and
Daniel Dirt's striking vocals. The whole album
seems to run on real kick arse bass lines, but
really shines on 'Soon It Will Be'.
The album is full of high points, and that’s
mainly due to the fact that the majority of the
songs on the album are extremely catchy stand
out melodic punk rock numbers. 'One Way Or Another'
has some really fast catchy vocals and before
you know it you will be singing along to the catchy
chorus. 'Lines Are Faded' screams out Rancid more
than any of the other tracks on the album, the
vocals and bass line sounds like you have heard
them many times before, what makes the song slightly
stand out is the impressive guitar solo that the
band throw in.
The track that stands out the most to be has
to be the extremely catchy 'Lookin' Back' which
really does build up in tempo and shine on the
extremely sing a long chorus that would get even
the most miserable of people singing along. However
'TV Static' comes close behind 'Lookin' Back'
for being a classic punk song that you will listen
to repetitively.
Album number two from Time Again is not much different
in sound from the bands previous releases but
you can clearly tell that the band are a much
tighter sounding band. The songs on the album
do sound like they wouldn’t be to out of
place on Rancid's '...And Out Came The Wolves'
album just with more punk and less ska/reggae.
The Rancid comparison is the main reason why Time
Again have always been met with mixed reactions,
but I personally love Rancid and don’t have
a problem with the music Time Again are making
as they are extremely good at what they do, what
they lack in originality they surly make up with
quality and speed.
