I'm trying to work out whether Eightpagepullout
aren't very good, or whether it's just poorly recorded
and mixed down. I think the sound they're going
for is pop-punk stuff, you know, which leads me
to believe they should record else where. On the
opening song, "Stand Up," after some vocal
chanting, the song goes off on a brief instrumental
trail of guitars and whatnot, but it just all sounds
so weak. So much reverb has been half-heartedly
thrown on each part that not one track really stands
out, it's just a blur or noise. And on other tracks,
things are far from perfect, the levels are well
and truly up the swanny and there's no rock feeling.
It's like emo, but worse. (I didn't know it was
possible either.)
Trying to look through the recording and giving
the lads the benefit of the doubt, they're clearly
talented. They can sing in tune, produce vocal
harmonies to suit that genre, and can play their
instruments well too. They know how to throw a
song together, it's all gravy. However, sadly,
along with many bands of this genre, popping up
every five seconds, it all sounds the same, really.
And with the choice of mixing, well, there isn't
much hope.
A fairly average feeling overall, sadly.
If I had to choose a song off of this EP to order
you to go and listen to, it would be "The
Good Times," there's just something about
it that I really like. Maybe with an ounce of
two of "rawk!" this could be verging
on awesome.
3/5
