Yes, believe it or not, the Levellers are still
together. They even have their own festival, "Beautiful
Day," named after probably their most famous
song. And given that I hadn't heard much since,
I'd presumed they'd disbanded. Apparently not! A
forthcoming studio album, I'll have you know. And
this song is from it. "A Life Less Ordinary,"
(Yeah, I was hoping for an Ash cover, too,) is pretty
much what you'd expect from The Levellers, but slightly
better. Their sound hasn't changed at all, and the
upbeat country feel has been taken a step further
with some fiddles and strings and whatnot. Yee-hah.
The b-side to this, an appetisingly named "The
Cholera Well," is just like the previous
track, really. Except it's a bit political. Something
about Sadam and Afghanistan. Fair enough. Actually
I lied, it's a lot political.
Flogging Molly tamed a little, The Levellers have
still got it. I'm amazed. I really am.
