Ida Maria is an extremely talented 23 year old singer-songwriter-guitarist
from Norway who has really good song writing skills
and vocals that sound like a cross between Janis
Joplin meets Bjork with a hint of Lily Allen. Ida
Maria has already self released two singles on her
Nesna Records record label which were the brilliantly
catchy 'Oh My God' and the more mellowed out 'Drive
Away My Heart', well she is now back and ready to
release her third single 'Stella'.
'Stella' is a song that tells the story of god
giving the world away to a 43-year old prostitute
from Manhattan in return for a night with her,
which shows how creative Ida is with her lyrics
and song writing skills. 'Stella' is an instantly
catchy song that features heavily on Ida strumming
her electric guitar, but it’s her strong
loud kick-arse vocals that really make the song,
the song has everything you would expect from
an confident solo artist.
The song features a few b-sides, the first 'In
The End' is a real chilled out song that oddly
features minimal guitar work and minimal vocals
and is extremely quiet in places. The other b-side
'Small People's Smiles' features some really good
guitar playing that builds up as the song goes
on, Ida's vocals also build up in pace and sound
as the song goes on. The b-sides are nothing special
but show’s that all Ida Maria songs sound
different from the last.
I have thought Ida Maria is on to good things
ever since I heard her debut single 'Oh My God'
many months ago, and with her third single 'Stella'
out in mid march and her debut album following
in the summer, it’s only a matter of months
until we find out if Ida Maria gets the success
she deserves.
4/5
