Well, Queens of the Stone Age, what else do I need to say about this band?
They've been at the top of their game for as long as they’ve been
in the game, constantly delivering top quality album after top quality
album. They have such a distinctive sound, that to date, still makes the
hairs on the back of your neck stand up. Although the line up changes
as often as front man Josh Homme deems fit, he now seems set with the
line up he has, which if going by ‘Era Vulgaris’, is fantastic
news.
The new single of the current album is ‘Make It Wit Chu’.
It is actually a fairly old QOTSA song but has been re-recorded for the
album with fantastic results. Admittedly when the song first kicks in,
you’re going to want to check you’re listening to the right
song as it’s not your expected QOTSA sound. It gives off a Jazz/Blues
vibe, which the sound the whole song is based on. Essentially it’s
a love song with balls. It might not be the generic QOTSA sound we all
know and love but it’s definitely got the QOTSA feel. Complete with
slow, effective guitar lines and Homme’s distinct ‘ghostly’
voice, this song is one for the bank.
A great song from a great band, showing that despite the length of time
they have been around, they can still pull out new sounds and keep up
with the ever changing times without losing any credibility or being accused
of “selling out”,
‘Make It Wit Chu’ is a corker of a track that will get you
singing along, and probably clicking your fingers like a Jazz man.
5/5
