Well. What can I say. This, to me, is a bit different. The Like are a
three-piece all girl band, and I find myself quite liking their offering
to the music world. I can't think of many female artists that excite me.
There are Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Le Tigre, Ladyfuzz, etc, but I can't help but
be annoyed by them all. The Horrorpops are bearable, and Tsunami Bomb
had something going for them. But of recent, nothing's grabbed me. But
this. Yes. I'm liking it.
It seems to be a blend of styles. It starts with a distorted riff, to
which I instantly thought “oh look, girls are trying to look mean,”
but then it all kicked off and I was reeled in. The softer verses consist
of breathy vocals, and it's all played and written well, and then then
the backing vocal melodies come in for the chorus, it transforms itself
into an upbeat pop-punk track.
It really is ear-candy. Very impressive. I hope these girls go far.
I like The Like.
