If you are yet to hear Johnny Foreigner then you are missing out on one
of the most exciting bands to come out of Birmingham in a long time but
don’t worry as the band are set to get pretty big and there will
be no escaping them. The band are a three piece and play noisy poppy indie
music and I am pretty sure after hearing just one track by the band you
will be hooked as I certainly was and so was 1000's of fans according
to their myspace friend count.
The band have put together a 6 track EP titled 'Arcs Across The City'
and I will challenge anyone to find a fault with the EP as it is simply
stunning and is one of the most listenable random catchy releases I have
heard in a long time.
The EP starts off with 'Champagne Girls I Have Known' and it is such a
fast energetic song and the duel vocals from Alexei and Kelly are stunning
and really makes the bands sound really listenable, the overall sound
of the song is quite melodic but at the same time the vocals can be quite
raw and punk sounding.
There are so many great moments within this EP such as the opening to
'Suicide Pact, Yeh?' where the song starts off with some clapping and
some strong chant along vocals. The mellow introduction of 'Sofacore'
is pretty good sounding and throughout the song it seems to battle from
being chilled out and upbeat with Alexei and Kelly's vocals changing throughout
the song.
The stand out track on the album has to be 'Yes You Talk Too Fast' the
song is well produced with some great guitar work and the vocal face off
between Alexei and Kelly really add to the melodic-ness of the song, if
this song fails to get you moving and smiling there must simply be something
very wrong with you.
The EP finishes with 'This Band Is Killing Us' which starts off with a
strange electro sounding introduction that starts off extremely quiet
and builds up in sound as the song goes on, the vocals work in a similar
way to starting off pretty chilled out and quiet until the song reaches
its peak and explodes with twangy sounding guitars and more in your face
vocals.
There aren’t many bands around at the moment like this and that’s
what makes Johnny Foreigner such an interesting addition to the music
scene, the bands sound is really made up by the duel boy girl vocal duties
that are really energetic sounding like the two members are battling out
against each other to prove who has the best vocal, and it’s not
all about the bands vocals as they sure know how to play their instruments
and come up with some melodic songs. Seriously if you don’t find
Johnny Foreigner fun and interesting you seriously need some help as I
cant find a fault with this band.
