Drive By Argument have been on the music scene since 2004 but I only really
came across the band a couple of months ago when they released 'Sex Lines
Are Expensive Comedy' as a single, the song totally appealed to me and
was full of heavy guitar riffs and dance like synth sounds. The band have
now come up with a plan to finish off 2007 by touring their arses off
and at the same time releasing a new 3 track EP that will only be available
to buy from the bands up coming tour, the EP will be limited in numbers
and could become quite rare if Drive By Argument hit the big time.
The first track on the EP is 'Left, Left, Walk Forward Get On The Dragon'
which is an indie orientated song that features lots of electronic dance
sounds and synths giving the band a bit of a Panic! At The Disco edge
but on a more low key scale. The second track on the EP is 'Calm' and
as with the previous song it sounds like the band have worked pretty close
with Panic! At The Disco and come up with a sound so close to theirs but
more British sounding. The dance synths are fast throughout the song and
half way through the song they turn into some crazy clubbing sound that
you would expect to hear in Kevin And Perry Go Large, the only downside
to the song is that it gets quite repetitive towards the end dragging
on a bit.
The EP closes with 'I Want To Know What Dub Is', the song starts off sounding
quite unbearable to the stage of you wanting to turn it off but about
30 seconds in the song gets quite listenable but before you know it the
song goes down hill again sounding quite drowned out and picks up yet
again for the outro.
Overall the EP is a bit hit and miss, there are some good moments but
at the same time there is nothing that really stands out to make you want
to listen to this over and over again. The band have developed their sound
since they released 'Sex Lines Are Expensive Comedy' but I don’t
think they have developed their sound for the better, I was looking forward
to hearing more from Drive By Argument but now I’m not as hyped
about hearing their debut album once it’s released in early 2008.
3/5
