It’s pretty strange how a band nearly splits and goes on a hiatus
whilst the fans are left wondering if the band will ever return to the
music scene and the band suddenly come back and release the album of their
career and then gain worldwide success. This is exactly what Crime In
stereo have done with their new album 'Is Dead', the album is totally
different from any of the bands previous records and a huge step forward
from their previous studio album 'The Troubled Stateside'.
'Is Dead' opens up with 'XXXX (The First Thousand Years Of Solitude)’,
which is a really fast passionate catchy song that wouldn’t be to
out of place on a Rise Against album. 'Third Atlantic' has a ‘recent
times’ Brand New style introduction and cuts out the fast catchiness
and brings in a more powerful and serious sound and really showcases how
much Crime In Stereo have changed. 'But You Are Vast' is a real slowed
down song that is bound to shock the bands fans but actually happens to
be a really good song with some stand out drumming. The slowest and most
laid back song on the album is 'Orbiter' which starts off with some laid
back drum beats and really mellow soothing vocals and that’s pretty
much how the song runs for the 3minutes and 40 seconds it is on.
When some bands change their sound it more or less kills the band off
and they go back to their original sound for their next album but it’s
usually too late and the damage is already done, with Crime In Stereo
they have done exactly what Brand New have done with their last two albums
and taken a huge step forward creating music beyond their fans expectations
which can only see the band grow.
Most of 'In Dead' is slowed down compared to what the band have done in
the past but 'Vicious Teeth' is one of the few songs on the album that
is quite fast and quiet, the song takes a little while to build up but
the fast catchiness does come in for a short time before slowing down
again. The album closes with 'Choker', which is one of the best songs
on the album.
Crime in Stereo have changed a lot with 'Is Dead' the album takes a fair
few listens to fully get into and enjoy but once you are into it, it's
a fully enjoyable experience that you will listen to again and again.
4/5
