Solo indie pop music has been on the rise in the UK music scene over the
past year or so with Amy Winehouse, Lilly Allen and Kate Nash all creating
a huge storm in the UK charts with their brand of catchy and witty indie
music and now it looks like Norway’s Ida Maria has caught in on
the act and is set to storm the UK. Ida Maria is well known and loved
for her energetic live shows and is about to release her debut single
'Oh My God' in the UK as a 7 inch only release.
'Oh My God' is one of them songs that only takes a couple of listens to
get into, the song starts off with a tense guitar riff before smashing
into a full on rocking song with banging drums and really strong loud
catchy vocals, which totally shows that Ida can do what the likes of Kate
Nash and Lilly Allen are doing but with a lot more rock and attitude.
The b-side of the single is a song called 'We're All Going To Hell' and
is a more laid back song with minimal backing music that relies heavily
on Ida's strong vocals which really do her good here.
Ida is confident, full of attitude, can pen a good song and has an extremely
strong voice that should help bring her the success she deserves. She
has the potential to be huge in the UK as long as her record label promote
her well enough and radio stations pick up on her in the early stages.
4/5
