InMe are back on the scene with a slightly different line up from the
bands last album due to long time bass player Joe Morgan leaving the band
last year which saw InMe take a little break and replace Joe Morgan with
frontman Dave Mcpherson's brother Greg Mcpherson the band hit the road
shortly after Greg joined the band sounding tighter than ever like Greg
was always in the band.
A year later and InMe are back and ready to release their new studio album
'DayDream Anonymous' which was recorded in Sweden. The album is more of
a personal sounding album lyrically after frontman Dave Mcpherson had
one of the worst year's of his life in 2006 with Joe leaving the band,
splitting up with someone he was extremely close to and also losing his
hair due to stress-related alopecia, but all the bad has helped the band
make one of the best albums of their career if not the best.
'DayDream Anonymous is quite a catchy sounding album but quite heavy at
the same time with some very heavy riffs that you just wouldn’t
expect from InMe. The album opens up with 'Myths And Photographs', which
is the perfect song to open up the album showing how heavy yet melodic
the band are sounding these days. The opening guitar riffs are quite simply
stunning and Dave's vocals sound better than ever especially during the
chorus.
'Far-Reaching' is a stand out song, the vocals are strong and the instrumental
work in the song is really technical with a lot going on with everything
sounding that little bit more heavier which is partly down to the new
addition of having Greg Mcpherson in the band as the man is known for
his love of heavier music.
The bands current single 'I Wont Let Go' is the most catchiest song on
the album but at the same time is quite a heavy no bullshit pure rock
and roll song. Dave's vocals are strong sounding and sound at their best
singing over the fast guitar riffs during the songs infectious chorus.
Things get toned down for a bit for the slow sounding 'Turbulence' which
is a classic rock and roll song that’s not too technical, but with
everything slowed down a bit with Dave's vocals sounding exceptionally
meaningful.
The technical sounding introduction of 'Crack The Whip' and 'In Loving
Memory' really show how much the band have progressed with their sound
with the later of the two songs being one of the strongest songs on the
album.
The album title track 'DayDream Anonymous' takes a chilled out approach
and ends up being an easy listening rock song, it’s nothing special
but just proves how much effort the band have put into making this album
with each song sounding different from the next and different from any
of the bands previous material.
The album closes with 'Toast To Broken Glass' which is the most technical
sounding song on the album and also the heaviest with a lot going on at
once and Dave's vocals sound slightly different than on the rest of the
album which could be a sign that the band are going to develop their sound
even more over the next few years.
Who would of thought InMe would still be making music ten years after
they formed? I surely didn’t. When Joe Morgan left the band last
year I didn’t expect InMe to release another album, but they have
not just released another album, they have released the album of their
career. 'DayDream Anonymous' see's InMe take a totally different approach
with a more technical sound that is both heavy and melodic.
5/5
