Anomia - Closing Up The BasementAnomia - Closing Up The basement

Anomia are an Italian four piece punk band who are influenced by the likes of Alkaline Trio, Rise Against and The Black Maria. The band have made a good impression in their own country and are now ready to cross shores and tour across the UK in support of their debut UK releases with the release of their 10 track album 'Closing Up The Basement'.

'Closing Up The Basement' is quite a good album, it opens up with 'A Trivial Thing' which starts off with some fast guitar work, Giovanni Pedrollo’s strong sing a long vocals soon kick in. 'Breathing Loneliness' is another fast punk song where the vocals totally dominate the song, the guitar work is quite fast. 'Stop Havin' Fun' is quite a fast sing a long track that randomly features some aggressive shouts of "Stop Havin' Fun" popping up when you wouldn’t expect it.

'Vains' starts of quite a melodic song with some sing a long vocals which soon turn quite aggressive for the shout a long chorus. The standout track of the album has to be 'Nothing Seems To Be The Right Word'. The song has a lot going on and features a great guitar solo, the vocals change from being strong normal to aggressive and shouty in no time at all and go back to normal just as quick, everything about this song is spot on. 'Officially 2.30pm' is another strong sounding song and is a really catchy song that really grows on you the more you listen to it.

'Wannabee' is quite a boring song, no it’s not a cover of the irritating classic Spice Girls song but im sure if it was it would be a lot better than the below average song Anomia have come up with here. The album closes with 'Another Way To Say Goodbye', which is a fast paced guitar driven punk song.

It’s good to see an Italian punk band attempting to unleash their music on the UK crowd, the band do sound slightly like their influences and don’t offer anything that we haven’t heard before but overall a good attempt especially considering the band are still young.

3/5
